Disney rips themselves off...

This Russian Blog post
gives a number of examples like the one above, of Disney seeming to reuse animations in almost identical ways - I suppose this kind of thing has to happen in such labor intensive animation projects, but it's interesting to see it detailed this way. (via 30gms)

The power of images and words

Here's an example of how powerful images and words can be. The story that is linked to here contains language that would be offensive to many. This is a story about a fifteen year old girl who started her own web site and creates short animations, and who has been visciously threatened for it.

Warning from Steve

Steve mentioned that the server is headed towards fullness. He also mentioned that as a stress relief he will be beginning to delete things willy-nilly from the server starting next week if the server does not become considerably less full. SO to protect your self from willy-nilly-file-loss, please visit your student folder and back up and delete whatever you can manage to get rid of so that the server doesn't get all funky like last semester.

Creating Tableless Sites Why and Some Basics

This article gives a great rundown of the reasons for and benefits of writing tableless web sites using CSS. If you are unsure about the differences between a table based web page and a CSS based design, read through this for explanation.

"I've heard no report of thousands of people at the convention center"

I know this seems like old news, but I was listening to the NPR "Memorable Moments" podcast this morning and heard an interview with Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff held during the Katrina crisis which reminded me of just how badly the US government responded to that situation. Listen to it and see if it makes you as angry as it made me.
I heard another interview recently that forecasted a rise in sea level of 20 feet if the ocean temperatures continue to warm at the rate they are now. You've got to figure that a twenty foot sea level increase won't happen one inch at a time, but will happen in spurts, with many situations similar to Katrina, when a storm will flood a coastal city and the floods just won't recede back into the ocean. If that's what lies in our future then I hope our leaders are adjusting to their utter failure with Katrina.

Today is CSS Naked Day

The site looks all funky because I thought I'd participate in this whole CSS Naked Day nonsense. I've removed the CSS Stylesheet from for the day. Make sure you scroll down below the posts to find the other content - especially today's podcast of the day which is a good one.

Art Chantry and is a site that was referenced by Art Chantry in his interview on Design Matters (great interview - it's today's podcast - check it out!) Art mentioned it as the place to find inspiring design. If you've heard of Nirvana or the word "grunge" but don't know who Art Chantry is, you need to listen to that interview.
